Board Width

When selecting a width for you board you need to keep in mind what size boot you have. A common myth is that if you have a boot size of 10 or bigger that you need to have a wide board. This is not always the case. It is ideal to have one inch of your boot overhanging your board. This will give you the best leverage when carving and getting from edge to edge. If you have a wide board and your feet don't overhang you are going to have a really hard time getting the board between edges. You can counter too much overhang by angling your front foot toward the nose of the board.

Boot Sizing

When getting fit for snowboard boots you are going to want to wear whatever socks you plan to wear boarding to get the most comfortable fit. You want your boot to be pretty snug. When you first put your foot in the boot, tap the heel of the boot on the ground several time so that your heel is up against the back of the boot. Then lace the laces tightly. This will give you the best fit. I don't really recommend that you walk around in your boots because most of the time you aren't walking around while boarding. The biggest thing is that they fit tight. If they are to loose than you run into lots of other problems.
